Other Cinema's NEW show 12/19/09 SF, CA

I'll be heading down to San Francisco here this Saturday and pretty much heading straight to Other Cinema's NEW (New Experimental Works) show which is taking place at the Artist's Television Access studio in the lovely Mission District. The series is curated by filmmaker Craig Baldwin (no stranger on this blog) and I am excited to see what he has in store for his Winter edition. While in town I plan on visiting the SF MOMA, catching up with some friends, walking all over the place and I am open to suggestions as far as taking on other activities.

*I should mention that I'll be screening my short film 122 Random Seconds at the Other Cinema show.

Bandage a Knife at Performance Works NW 11-21-09

Last night I helped my friends at Performance Works NW document a really cool collaborative performance called "Bandage a Knife". Glad I got a chance to catch it and perhaps I will be able to post some video of it in the near future.

Jewish Federation of Greater Portland Goes LIVE WIRE! 11/14/09 Feat: Harry Rabinowitz!

Just figured I'd put up a little slice of the video I recently shot at the Jewish Federation of Greater Portland Goes LIVE WIRE! event I shot for Smart Tech AV last weekend (11/14/09)
I had a really great time shooting this event and got tons of cool little clips so I will try and get some of the other stuff I shot up soon - including but not limited to kickass performances by The March Fourth Marching Band as well as Storm Large giving some backstage kickboxing lessons.

In this clip Harry Rabinowitz, an Oscar winning conductor and composer for film and television shares a charming little story.

Coming soon to DVD: New films by Craig Baldwin and some newly remastered films by Bill Brown!

I am happy to say that I just sent off a DVD master of Craig Baldwin's Sci-Fi collage mindwarp of a film "Mock Up on Mu" to my friends down the street at Cravedog for mass DVD Replication. By the end of this month you will be able to get a deluxe DVD edition (featuring a mindblowing Director's Commentary!) of this one of a kind film and just in time to placate that hard to please film connisseur for Christmas. Are you looking to add some awesome experimental films to your DVD collection? You can do that and so much more online by visiting OTHER CINEMA DVD right now!

Craig Baldwin has long been a cinematic hero of mine, ever since I took a "creating a found image essay" workshop he hosted at the NW Film Center way back in 2000, the man totally helped to challenge and change the way I view and create cinema. Since then I have traveled several times to screen my work at his long running screening series OTHER CINEMA which takes place throughout the year at the Artist Television Access space in the heart of the Mission District in San Francisco, CA.

BILL BROWN'S THE NEXT BEST PLACE

still from Confederation Park by Bill Brown (1999)

Currently I am in the process of performing a DVD remastering and authoring project for another one of my favorite (truly!) independent filmmakers, Bill Brown and his first DVD collection of short films, "The Next Best Place" is currently in the house! It's been a joy getting to watch the four short films that are included in this volume, including: Roswell, Buffalo Common, Confederation Park and Mountain State. Brown's playfulness and wry sense of humor mixes incredibly well with absolutely gorgeous cinematography, all seemingly created from a truly observant tourist's point of view, the films are every bit as charming as they are thought provoking.

So, where can I eventually buy all of this you ask? Thanks for asking, I can tell you that Peripheral Produce and Microcosm Publishing are awesome art resources here in Portland and they can make your every cinematic and indie publication wish come true!
